Pom poms are perfect as we approach festive season — they’re quick, cheerful, and instantly make anything look 100% more fun. Whether you’re topping off a hat, stringing up a garland, or adding a finishing flourish to your wrapping.
You’ll need:

Cardboard

Scissors

Yarn

A compass and pencil (or two round objects to draw around)
What to do:

Cut two matching doughnut shapes from your cardboard.

Hold them together, trapping the tail of your yarn between the layers.

Wrap the yarn round and round — through the middle and over the edge — until the hole in the centre is almost full.

Cut the end of the yarn, then slide your scissors between the two cardboard rings and snip carefully all the way round the outer edge (Do not remove your card yet, as it holds the yarn pieces together).

Take a 30cm length of yarn long (a scrap of thinner yarn in a similar colour is good), slip it between the card layers, pull tight and knot securely — this ties the pom pom together. Do not cut the long ends as you can use these to attach your pompom to your hat.

Gently tear away the cardboard and give your pom pom a shake to fluff it up. Trim any straggly bits for a neat, round finish.
