The Course:
Part 1. 10.30 to 11.30
Arrival and introduction. Coffee and teas are provided, or you are welcome to bring your own refreshments with you.
Firstly you will select your yarn from a range of undyed 100g skeins. Fibres and weights are subject to availability but can include sock, DK, Chunky and Super chunky weights, and fibres can include Merino, Blue Faced Leicester, Corriedale, Kent Romney & others.
You will then create a mood board to inspire your own unique colourway. There is no right or wrong way to create a mood board, the image below is just a suggestion. Playing with images and colours is fun and can bring up colour combinations you may not have previously considered.
You can use an image or objects you have brought with you, use cuttings from magazines/catalogues etc (provided) or print images you have found online using the printer in the studio. Then you can play with paint, pens or pencils and come up with a dye colourway idea which can be a single colour, have speckles or areas of different colours. Support and guidance will be provided throughout, but you are the designer!
Break time: 11.30 to 12.00.
You can take a break and grab a coffee in one of the Old High Street's coffee houses, or visit some of the fantastic independent shops on the street.
Part 2: 12.00 to 1.30.
The Dyeing starts!
After a brief talk on safety in the dye kitchen, you will don protective gear (aprons, gloves, provided by FHY). Wearing older clothes and shoes that cover your feet (ie not open toed sandals) is recommended as spills can occur.
Using your mood board as a guide, we will select and mix dyes in your preferred colours. I will guide you through the process of adding dye to yarn step-by-step, allowing you to be as experimental or controlled as you wish with your colours.
The process of adding dye colour and fixing using heat and a mildly acidic bath will take approximately an hour, giving us some time to cool and rinse your yarn at the end of the session.
At the end of the session your yarn will still be damp. Sealable containers will be provided for you to transport your yarn home where you can hang it out to dry. Instructions on winding your yarn into a ball ready for knitting or crochet will be given.
You will also receive a 10% discount on any F.H.Y. products purchased on the day.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
Please note that we do not issue refunds on Workshops once they are booked. This is because time is blocked out for teaching meaning that the studio cannot be used for anything else, and also because dye materials for students are brought in specially.
If you have an issue meaning you can not attend on your booked date, please contact us in advance of the date to arrange re-booking on to the next suitable available workshop.
If you are unable to attend this second workshop date after the re-booking has been arranged, then unfortunately your booking cannot be re-arranged a third time.
