The 2024 Mystery Mini-Skein Advent Calendar is available to purchase and will showcase my natural dye range. The Despatch date is at the end of October, with delivery in November ready to start on December 1st.
This advent includes:
- 24 x 10g merino blend sock yarn mini skeins. 1 per day (10g = 42.5m). 22 x solid colours & 2 x variegated mini skeins.
- a choice of 3 naturally dyed tote bag colours printed with an original 'In The Garden' design (indigo blue, buddleia yellow, madder pink).
- easily recyclable packaging.
- and maybe a few extra knitting notion treats!
- tracked postage within U.K.
- knit-a-long colourwork mini-shawl pattern ( one easy section per day published on our blog & ravelry).
- despatch date 31st October 2023.
- the option to purchase 100g cream/undyed sock yarn on the same base for the Knit-A-Long.
In total you will receive 240g hand dyed sock weight yarn which equates to 1020m of yarn (10g/42.5m per day). This can be used for the included pattern (colourwork mini-shawl) or with any other sock/4ply weight Advent make-a-long patterns.
NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT purchase just the 100g cream yarn without also purchasing an advent calendar. I will cancel and refund any orders for just 100g cream yarn.
Each hand dyed mini skein will be coloured using natural dyes. The final colours will differ from the example shown in the images above, but the collection will showcase the wide range of colours achievable with plant/natural dyes. Each skein will be labelled with the dye used and includes some information about that dyestuff. This year two of the skeins will be variegated colourways.
Note: All skeins are mordanted for light and wash fastness. They may fade/change slightly over time but this will not be very noticeable - think medieval tapestries fading over 100's of years. This is normal for natural colours, some would say it is part of their charm!
The advent will use 100% sustainable & recyclable packaging and labelling. Each mini skein will be in numbered and recycled (& recyclable) paper bags, and come to you inside a reusable cotton tote bag, coloured with natural dyes and printed with an original 'In The Garden' design. Postal packaging will be recycled content (& recyclable) kraft mailers.
Each days numbered paper bag will contain 1 x merino blend sock weight mini skein (75% merino, 25% nylon), and possibly other treats such as an original design stitch marker.
The knitting pattern is for a lacy scarf and will use a range of easily achievable fair-isle style colourwork motifs. Each section will also be published daily on my blog and on Ravelry. The needle size used will be 3mm.
The price includes 2nd class signed postage within the UK. Postage outside the UK is International Tracked service and incurs an extra cost. These may take longer to reach you (2-3 weeks estimated), hence the October despatch date.
Techniques used for the K-A-L pattern will be:
Stocking/stockinette stitch. 2 colour and some 3 colour colourwork. Reading from a colourwork chart. Simple increases & decreases. I-cord edge.
Please contact me with any questions not answered above.

I am so excited about this knit a long, it arrived very quickly, earlier than expected. This is such a cool concept, all of the fibers are naturally dyed and I’ve already peeked at all of them, they are beautiful.
