This is a guide to adding beading accents to crochet work.

The 'standard practice' is to thread the correct number of beads on to your yarn before you start crocheting, and repeatedly push them down the yarn until you get to the place you want the beads to sit.

I find this version much easier.

I have used it to add beads to the Folkestone Harbour Yarn 'Arrowhead Shawl'.

You will need:

- Your current crochet project.

- Beads with a hole big enough to fit on your yarn (1.6mm hole size upwards).

- A crochet hook small enough to fit through the bead of your choice (size 1mm or less).

I am using Folkestone Harbour Yarn  4 ply weight sock yarn and Miyuki size 5 Triangle beads from Moon Beads who are specialists in beads for knitting & crochet (other suppliers are available!). These beads have a 1.8mm size hole so will fit 4 ply and thinner DK's. My micro hook is a 0.6mm crochet hook, this and other micro size hooks should be available from your Local Yarn Store.

Steps

1. With your beads and micro hook on hand, crochet to the place you would like to add a bead. 2. Place the bead on to the micro hook. 3. Swap your main crochet hook out and replace it with the micro hook and bead. 4. Gently slide the bead off the micro hook and on to the yarn loop. 5. Replace your main crochet hook and carry on crocheting your pattern as normal.

Wash and block your finished project as normal.
