Orpiment Yellow Kent Romney DK Weight Yarn 100g Skein
Orpiment Yellow Kent Romney DK Weight Yarn 100g Skein
'Orpiment'. A semi-solid mustard-ochre yellow dyed on pure Kent Romney DK.
Inspired by my love of traditional pigments. Orpiment is a naturally occurring mineral. In its raw form, the canary yellow rock glitters, leading many to believe gold could be extracted from it. The ancient Egyptians adored this luxurious colour, found in Tutankhamun's tomb.
Dyed on to the fibre of my local sheep breed, the Kent Romney.
If you are looking to make a 'Sunset Sweater' by Marna Gilligan (see images 3, 4 & 5), this colour is suitable as 'Sky 1' and the recommended quantity is as follows: Size 1 = 1 skein, Sizes 2-9 = 2 skeins, Size 10 = 3 skeins.
Kent Romney DK weight Yarn Base 100g: 100% pure Kent Romney. 100g= 230m (approx). A smooth feeling, strong yet soft DK weight yarn with a slight halo. As colours can differ slightly between batches, we recommend purchasing enough yarn to finish your project from the same batch. If your desired number of skeins are not available on your chosen base, please message us and we will dye the needed quantity.
Why Romney? Kent Romney sheep produce a fine, soft wool that is also strong and durable. The fibres can be as thin as 28-30 micron thickness making it one of the finest British breeds. Our Kent Romney is responsibly sourced by our suppliers in Yorkshire, the heart of the British wool & textile industry. Care and washing: Gentle hand washing of hand dyed and hand knitted/crocheted items is recommended. Yarns marked superwash can be machine washed at 30 degrees, but I personally prefer hand washing in warm water using a mild detergent before lying flat to dry (no-rinse wool specific products such as eucalan or soak are great for this). Please note that hand-dyed yarns may shed a little colour when first washed. This does not affect the fastness of the colour, and is due to excess loose dye particles.
We do custom requests: Please note that custom requests such as a different base yarn or in larger quantities are easily achieved with no 'custom' surcharge added to the price. I am happy to oblige if I can, just message me and i'll quote you a cost and time scale.
