Single Mini Skeins 10g Natural Dye All Colours
Mini skeins of natural dyes, great as samplers or to add a 'pop' of natural colour to a project.
10g = approximately 42.5m on a 75% superwash merino wool/25% nylon high twist sock yarn base.
Soak up the beauty of these subtle, natural colours! Ranging in shade from bright pink to dark olive brown, these perfectly co-ordinating tones will look great in whatever project you choose to start, from a pair of stripy socks or gloves, either on their own or paired with a neutral). They can also be used for fair-isle, intarsia, crochet, weaving or whatever else takes your fancy!
All colours can be ordered separately in 50g or 100g quantities on the yarn base of your choice (eg: sock, DK, Aran, Chunky). Please message me for a quote and further details, it's really no trouble at all!
About Natural Dyes / Care Instructions: All colours have been 'mordanted' (ie fixed) with mineral extracts, to ensure the maximum light and wash fastness available from each extract. Despite this, naturally dyes fibres may fade, darken or change slightly over the course of their lifetime. This is part of the character (some would say part of the charm) of organic matter products, and these fractional changes over a long period of time should not discourage you from using environmentally friendly yarns. You may also find that some excess colour particles come loose during the first few washes. As I hand grind the dyestuffs, the particles vary in size and some flakes may stick to the yarn through the final rinses. This is not a dye fastness issue, but you may wish to gently rinse and dry darker colours before knitting with them.
Care and washing: Your finished item should be gently hand washed in warm water using a mild detergent (I like ecover or no rinse wool products such as eucalan), before being laid flat to dry. I would not recommend harsh machine washing for natural dyes. All yarns in this pack have been dyed in small batches using age-old techniques with natural products, many of which I have foraged locally from flower, vegetable and tree matter. Only one 'animal' dye is used by us; Cochineal pink, which comes from insects harvested by a farmer called Lorenzo in The Canary Islands. I have included it in the range because of the vibrancy of the colours that can be achieved with it.
Custom Orders: All colours are available to buy on their own, either as 10g mini skeins on the same 4ply/sock base, or in 50g or 100g quantities on the yarn base of your choice (eg: lace, DK, Aran, Chunky). It costs no extra, so please message me with your requirements and I will get back to you with cost & timescale.
